Transitional Year Residency

FAQ

What is your application deadline?

The application deadline for PGY1 positions filled through the NRMP Match is December 1.

What are the USMLE/COMLEX requirements?

We require an USMLE/COMLEX transcript be submitted as part of your application to be considered for interview selection. We have no preference between USMLE or COMLEX and will utilize the higher of the two scores when presented both.

Our program considers examination scores in conjunction with other criteria such as your geographic preference, life experiences and letters of recommendation, rather than using test scores as the sole basis for interview decisions.

What are graduation date requirements?

For our PGY1 class, we prefer candidates currently in their fourth year of medical school.

Do you offer audition rotations to medical students or medical graduates?

If you are interested in an elective rotation in your third or fourth year of medical school email us at [email protected].

Do you require applicants to have U.S. clinical experience, externship, or observership?

Yes, we require all applicants to have some US clinical experience present on their application. Third and Fourth Year Medical School rotations (e.g., clerkships and sub-internships) are qualifying experiences.

Do you sponsor visas?

No, we do not sponsor any visas at this time.

Are there plans for additional residency programs at Northwest Healthcare Tucson?

Yes! Our Transitional Year Residency Program was accredited in 2023 and is currently recruiting its first class for a July 1, 2024 start. ACGME Accreditation applications are also underway for a Family Medicine Residency Program.

Can I email the program some questions specific to my application?

Sure, email us at [email protected].
