Dr. Jordan Makela is a surgeon on staff at Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital specialized in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. After completing undergraduate studies at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota he went on to complete medical school at the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota. He trained in General Surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, graduating in 2019. After practicing community general surgery for 3 years in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, he went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Makela is the Trauma Medical Director at Northwest Medical Center and is focusing on advancing the level of care that can be provided to trauma patients in the greater Tucson area. Other professional interests include management of surgical emergencies such as surgical infections, septic shock, and hemorrhagic shock. He also has an interest in implementing robotic and minimally invasive techniques in emergency general surgery.
When not working, Dr. Makela enjoys traveling and exploring both the Desert Southwest and the country at large with his wife and two young children. His other interests are barbecuing and the Green Bay Packers.
