Family Medicine Residents

Delphyne A. Kaakyire, M.D.

Where are you from/ where is your hometown?
I grew up in Ghana, and I still carry so much of that with me. That upbringing shaped me into who I am today, but I’d say Arizona is definitely home now. It’s where I’ve built community and where I feel grounded. I may not have cactus roots, but I’ve definitely settled in.

What makes you excited to be a Family Medicine Resident in Tucson?
Tucson’s warmth, both in climate and community, is what drew me here. I’m excited to train in a place that values compassionate, full spectrum care, and I love that I get to serve such a diverse patient population while growing into the kind of physician I’ve always hoped to be.

How do you spend a free weekend?
If I get a weekend off, I’m probably curled up watching Netflix with my husband, catching up with loved ones, or hunting down the best local food spots. I also love a good weekend getaway. Bonus points if there’s a beach involved.

Where is your ideal vacation?
Japan. I’ve been a few times and I’m still not over it. It has this beautiful mix of old and new traditions, and the incredible food keeps drawing me back. Honestly, anywhere I can dive into a new culture, eat something delicious I can’t pronounce, and learn something new is a win for me.

Who’s your favorite superhero and why?
Black Panther is my favorite. He embodies intelligence, leadership, and pride in heritage. He’s strong, brilliant, and carries his community with him wherever he goes. He leads with heart, something I really admire and try to live by.
