Dr. So Yeon “Gen” Hwang moved to Tucson, Arizona from Seoul, Korea when she was eight years old. She grew up learning the violin and majored in music education in her first year of college. She graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine after finishing undergraduate at the University of Arizona. Dr. Yeon left her thoracic surgery residency at Seoul National University Hospital to care for her parents in Tucson, Arizona. By returning to Tucson, she came to know the dire need of primary care physicians in the states, especially in Tucson, and changed her career path in service to this need.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Yeon enjoys playing tennis in her free time and sometimes plays competitively in tournaments.
